Along Europe's oldest border, women like Matilde and Isabel once wove hundreds of linen sacks to carry the harvest. Found in abandoned village houses, these textiles are given a second life as cushions and poufs – every mend, every faded stripe, every trace of work left as it is.

Antique Portuguese linen, rust-dyed by artist Ilze Budberg. Over several days, iron objects rest on the fabric and the rust finds its own way through the fibres, leaving marks in brick red, ochre and grey. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of sabi-nuno, no two pieces are ever alike.

For more than sixty years, Fátima has woven with wool from the shepherds around her village. She carries every step herself – from raw fleece to finished piece – using only undyed wool in the natural tones of the sheep. The result: sculptural rugs and cushions with deep, tactile relief.
